Holland Casino and the Dutch Lottery, known for De Staatsloterij and Lotto, have received permits from the Gaming Authority (KSA) to legally offer online games of chance from Friday October 1st, 2021.
The Dutch Lottery is known for, among other things, De Staatsloterij and the TOTO. Other Dutch companies that have obtained an online gambling license are Fair Play and BetCity.nl. The latter has attracted former professional football player Andy van der Meijde as a figurehead for online gambling.
New legislation
Foreign parties that can legally allow customers to gamble via the internet from 1 October are Hillside (New Media Malta), NSUS Malta, Play North, Bingoal, Tombola and LiveScore Malta. Through these ten online poker sites, casinos and betting offices, customers can, for example, play online poker and bet on all kinds of sports matches.
At the moment it is still illegal to offer online games of chance in the Netherlands. Anyone who wants to gamble on the internet today or tomorrow is therefore dependent on sites that are not under the supervision of the Gaming Authority. This will change as of 1 October due to new legislation.
At the beginning of April, almost 30 companies submitted a license application to the Kansspelautorisatie, the Dutch regulating authority. The ten providers that have now received approval from the KSA must meet strict conditions regarding supervision and regulations in order to limit the risk of gambling addiction as much as possible.
Anti money laundering policies
Money laundering must also be prevented. The providers also have to pay gambling tax. In addition, there is a minimum age of eighteen and advertising for games of chance on the Internet must not be misleading or lead to excessive gambling.
Several large international providers of online games of chance, including Entain, still have to wait for a license to legally operate in the Netherlands. They have illegally offered online gambling on the Dutch market in the past. The Gaming Authority has imposed fines for this.
