Bodog Announces Rebranding to Bovada

In an anticipated move that was nowhere near anonymous, Bodog has formally announced its rebranding to Bovada for United States players.

Launching of the new site, known as Bovada.lv, commenced on Dec. 14. The rebranding had actually been announced in July and was scheduled to become effective to start the new year in Jan. 2012, but, apparently, Bodog initiated the rebranding a couple weeks ahead of schedule. The Morris Mohawk Gaming Group (MMGG), the Bodog licensee in the U.S. since 2006, will operate the site from here on out.

“The Bodog brand is confident MMGG’s customer account information and funds will continue to remain safe and secure, as it has done since MMGG entered its original agreement with the Bodog Brand in 2006 and we would like to wish MMGG the greatest success in its new venture,” a Bodog statement said.

American residents can no longer access Bodog.eu or any Bodog branded site. Accounts for current U.S. players were transferred to the Bovada website automatically and players are able to access the site via their existing account information and password, according to a Bodog press release.

The following email was sent to U.S. players by Bovada:

Since the announcement last summer that the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group’s (“MMGG”) brand licensing agreement with the Bodog Brand would expire at the end of the year, we have been working hard to build you a new site that offers you everything you had before – plus more!

The name Bovada is said to be derived from a combination of Bodog and Nevada.
